Living With Anxiety

This post is quite different than things I usually write about here on True Bliss. People around the world struggle with mental illnesses everyday. They want to be heard and understood by their families and friends. They want to be accepted just like everyone else and not be labeled by their mental illness.

I struggle with anxiety but am learning everyday how to cope and push through. Anxiety does not come from thinking about the future, but from wanting to control it.

Things People Don’t Know about Anxiety

  • Self-doubt is your worst enemy. You’re constantly judging, critiquing and perfecting yourself.
  • Social encounters can be so scary. Your heart rate sky rockets as soon as you shut the door behind you.
  • Invites, being invited to things even though you know you aren’t going to show up still makes you feel wanted and cared for.
  • Physical symptoms are a real thing (weakness, nausea, feeling of over heating, shortness of breath, chest pain and irritability are just to name a few)
  • Small talk can be extremely hard to do
  • Sleeping becomes a chore as your brain never seems to want to shut off
  • You push people away, you do so because you don’t think they will understand what’s going through your head or how you feel.
  • Dating is hard, it’s being excited about a date but thinking they’ll cancel last minute. It’s staring at your phone waiting for it.
  • Believing lies that are made up in your own head.
  • Anticipating the worst in people, even though they have nothing but good intentions.
  • Constant reassurance is something you want and truly need. It helps keep your mind at ease.
  • There’s a natural impulse to procrastinate. To put it off, wait for another day.
  • You can’t just stop worrying. We don’t have an ‘on’ and ‘off’ switch.
  • It’s the feeling of being attacked from something you can’t escape from.
  • People think you’re overreacting, when in reality it can be very real for you.
  • Waiting for something bad to happen, even when things are going perfectly fine.
  • Over analyzing every. little. thing.
  • You’d rather be alone majority of the time.
  • It’s wanting a break from your own thoughts.
  • Simple tasks can be overwhelming at times.
  • Small things can set you off, like not having a set plan, schedule or time.
  • You get used to feeling nauseous constantly.
  • Having a routine makes you feel more at ease and comfortable.
  • Crowds of people make you feel like you are no longer in control.
  • Feeling like you’ve forgotten something important and go the whole day not knowing what it is and end up feeling on edge.
  • Your muscles physically ache.
  • You’re quick to cry as you don’t know how else to express how you feel.

You never know the battle someone is fighting so don’t ever be quick to judge.

Be kind to one another,

xo

  2. Amazing post! I never say I have anxiety since I’m still figuring out if I do or it’s just major stress and I realize that it’s such a serious thing. With that being said, I don’t think I’ve every related to a post more in my life. I struggle with all these things on a daily/weekly basis. It’s always comforting to know you’re not along when it comes to things like this.

    • It’s definitely one of those things that take some time to diagnose and figure out. It all comes with time and patience. It’s great knowing how many people we can rely on for comfort and support. Thank you so much for reading 💜

  3. What an honest post! Thanks for sharing. I struggled with Postpartum Anxiety and it was really hard experience. I had such serious intrusive thoughts and it made even simple tasks exhausting. Its great that people are talking more about mental health and reducing the stigma!

    • Thank you for sharing! I know how hard it can be to put something so personal out in the open. It’s definitely something that should be talked about as we all have our weaknesses. Thanks for reading 💜

  4. I love how you put examples of how people who have anxiety feel on a daily basis. Talking about how the smallest of things makes them feel. Like how just having a small conversation can make them over think what is going on. I also love how you are open to how you have anxiety and are still learning how to cope with it every day.

    • I feel like it’s something you learn about yourself everyday as it’s not something you can learn about overnight. It’s a topic that I also feel needs to be talked about more of. Thanks for reading xo
